Nelda ‘Sue’ Miller, widely known as Granny, was welcomed into the arms of her savior on June 2, 2026. Sue was born October 28, 1946, to her mother, Annie Mills and father, Charlie Mills. She was raised with 9 other siblings, Jesse Lee Mills, Wilburn Mills, Maxie Mills, Charley Doyle Mills, Edwin Earl Mills, Elder Mills, Francis Berryhill, Norma Williams, and Nettie Mae Hall. The family grew up in Red River County and Sue was frequently described as the family caretaker, ringleader, and chaos coordinator.
On January 22, 1963, Sue married her forever, James Miller. For over 53 years, you didn’t get one without the other. They spent their younger years raising 3 boys who were the heart and soul of everything they did. Sue has never been a stranger to hard work. James and Sue owned and operated Miller Pipe Yard. Some could argue that James ran it, however, if you ever bought any pipe from them, you know exactly who was running the show. Sue dedicated many years to the night shift at Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas. She spent her days gardening, canning, cooking a feast for all three meals of the day, keeping James lined-out, chasing kids, and then grandkids. Looking back, it’s still a mystery when she slept.
Sue enjoyed her tea, sweet; coffee, hot; chicken, fried; Marlboro, lit; stove top, cooking; and family gathered around the dinner table. You didn’t want to be a tomato, cucumber, or blackberry anywhere near Bagwell, Texas. She was sure to can everything she could, preferably at 2am. If you knew anything about Granny, you knew she had enough food to feed you every Sunday by noon. Sue never asked for a day off and she showed up 100% every single day as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, friend, and more.
Her work ethic, grit, and wit carried over to her 5 granddaughters. She spent her days teaching them everything she knew and maybe a few things she didn’t. She attended more Detroit softball games than anyone in Red River County, always wearing her ‘It’s Miller Time’ shirt and yelling at anyone who tried to critique her granddaughters. She adored them and their children even more. When the first great grandchild, Grainger, arrived the girls knew a new favorite was in town. There was no mistaking that her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren loved her more than words can describe and there is no doubt, she did so equally.
Sue is now reunited with the love of her life, James Miller, mother, father, siblings, grandson Justin Miller, and best friend Patty Barton.
Sue is survived by her sons, Mark Miller and wife, Laura, Danny Miller and wife, Lana, and Paul Miller and wife, Tammy; her granddaughters, Katelyn Peek and husband, Arron, Jessica Chennault and husband, Derek, Halley Limbaugh and husband, Chris, Morgen Skidmore and husband, Paden, and Lauren Chipman and husband, Riley; grandson, Luke Crawford and wife, Cait; and great grandchildren, Grainger Justice, Alton Peek, Josie Peek, Brooks Chennault, Lennon Sue Chennault, Westen Skidmore, Miller Skidmore, Harrison Chipman, Kaden Crawford, and Ava Crawford; brother Elder Mills and wife, Jo. Sue’s love was extended as families grew to Hannah Weaver and husband, Jesse, with daughter, Ivy, Jenna Berry, Lainey Stenberg and husband, Jacob, Kacey Wolf and wife, Cady, with children, Coy and Kora, and a countless amount of cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Shelly Stringer – ELARA Caring Home Health, Jeremy Nelms and JK Nelms – Jeremy Nelms Therapy, and the Heritage House of Paris staff for the compassionate care and support provided throughout her final years. The family also expresses heartfelt appreciation to Briana Ramsey – Chambers Hospice for the exceptional compassion, love, and support shown to Sue and her family during her final days.
