Russell (Sonny) Roberts

Russell (Sonny) Woodfin Roberts passed away Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of 92.  He was born September 11, 1930, to Leo Woodfin and Leo Ambrose Roberts in Annona Texas. Russell married the love of his life Katherine Louise Lyon on July 14, 1951, in Clarksville, Texas.  He graduated from East Texas State University in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree.  He later received his master’s degree from Midwestern University.  Russell served in the US Army from April 1953 to April 1955.  He was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan from February 1954 to April 1955 during the Korean conflict.  Russell worked for the Wichita Falls Independent School District for 30 years, retiring in 1986.  After he retired from Wichita Falls ISD he sold cars for Gragg Motor Company in Wichita Falls until 2012. 

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, his parents, his sisters Edith Edrington, and Martha Sue Tyndell, his brothers-in-law Harold Tyndell and D. D. Edrington, his sister-in-law Linda Roberts and his nephews Terry Tyndell and Tim Tyndell.  He is survived by his brother Richard Roberts of Brownfield, nephews Jimmie (Drucilla) Edrington of Georgetown, Robert (Linda) Edrington of Annona, and Russell (Suzette) Tyndell of New Boston, nieces Donna Tyndell of Flint and Teresa (Tommy) Freeman of Seagraves as well as several great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services, officiated by his great nephew, Chandler Freeman, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday April 13th at Fairview Cemetery in Clarksville, Texas.
