Nancy Ann Carr Lewis (Finney was silent!) was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 23, 1945, to Jacob Jack Carr II and Januita Inez Holt Carr. Nancy grew up in Dallas with her older brother Jack Jacob Car
III and younger brother Roger Dale Carr. In 1961, Nancy married her first love, James Floyd Lewis, and the following year they were blessed with Nita Ann Calder. In 1977, Nancy and James moved to Grand Prairie, Texas. In 1980, the same year that Nita graduated, Nancy and James received an unexpected blessing and bundle of joy, James Jefferson Lewis. In 1984 Nancy was ecstatic to receive her first-born grandson, Jason Wade Taylor, born to Robert and Nita Taylor. A few short years later, in 1987, James Floyd passed away unexpectedly. Nancy and JJ (James Jefferson) moved to Red River County, where she found the love of her life, John Franklin Finney. In 1990, Nancy, JJ and John moved into the house where Nancy proceeded to live, love, and make memories until she drew her last breath. In 1993 Nancy attended and completed Wilton Cake Decorating courses in Paris, Texas, which she took in order to pursue her lifelong love of baking, which she took after her Granny Holt. In 2000 she was once again blessed with a surprise, this one being Stormy Inez Raven Taylor. Her son married in 2010, giving Nancy a daughter in law that she loved more like a daughter, and in turn giving her two more beautiful grandsons. Andrew Hunter Lewis was born in 2013, followed by Austin James Lewis in 2016.
Anyone who knew Nancy knew that her children and grandbabies were her pride and joy. She had a huge heart as well as an open door policy, and only the Good Lord knows how many “adopted” children and grandchildren she helped raise along the way, but if we tried to list everyone, this would look more like a newspaper than an obituary. Nancy loved to cook and bake, and everyone in her family can attest that she was the best cook that they knew. She found joy with baking and decorating cakes, as well as collecting decorative cake pans. She was an avid collector of dolls, whether they be fabric, porcelain, or cabbage patch, and she was so talented at making dolls as well. She made countless beautiful crochet creations, dolls being her personal favorite, but don’t let that fool you; this woman forgot more about crochet than a lot of people will ever learn. Nancy’s personality was one in a million, and there will never be another woman like her. She was a spitfire, and she had no problem telling someone what was on her mind, and at the same time she was the most loving and accepting woman that you could meet. Thanks to a loving and dedicated hospice team, Nancy was able to pass way peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Januita Inez Carr Freese, brother, Roger Dale Carr, and sister Barbara Wages.
Nancy is survived by her husband, John Finney, daughter, Nita Taylor, and son James Lewis; grandchildren Jason Taylor, Stormy Taylor, Andrew Lewis, and Austin Lewis. Survivors also include Bobby Wages, Harold Lewis, and Tina Wages, among many others whose lives she’s touched.
