Melvin Runyan or “Mule” to his friends, passed away, Monday, September, 6, 2021, at Christus St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana. He enjoyed his family and going down South. Melvin always making rounds, he enjoyed checking on his friends, making sure they were all okay. Melvin retired from Lone Star Steel and was a member of the Avery Missionary Baptist Church. His grandson, Pryce Coughran; 2 brothers, Joe Runyan and Kenneth Runyan; a sister, Veva Smith and an infant daughter Kristy Louise Runyan all preceded him in death. He married Mattie Louise Barr on April 7, 1967, in Queen City.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Roddy Jackson and Rev. Deanie Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Justin Kelsoe, Walt Putteet, Dale Henson, Chris Owen, Pat Coughran, Brook Lennon, Kevin Segovia and Rudy West.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Runyan of Avery; 1 son, Chris Runyan and wife, Jennifer of Olympia, Washington; 3 daughters, Sharon Evans of Texarkana, Kimberly Coughran and husband, Pat of Avery and Lorie Owen and husband, Chris of Texarkana; 3 sisters, Shirley Ramirez of Grand Prairie, Corene Hines and husband, G.A. of Clarksville and Lorene Beers and husband, Larry of Avery; grandchildren, Taylor Runyan, Ashlynne Runyan, Kristie Ware, Blaine Ware, Hunter Holder, Rydor Holder, Kendra Coughran and Courtney Coughran; and great grandchildren, Avery, Brooks, Cooper, Tatum, Kora and Jayden.
