Mary Gortney

Mary Gortney, age 97, of Avery, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Hospice of Texarkana. Mrs. Gortney was born, October 3, 1924, in Avery to Hubert and Alma Brown McCain. She was a longtime member of the Avery Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Gortney was a loving wife, mother and just a sweet Christian lady. Her husband, Delbert Gortney; infant son, Marion Keith Gortney; brothers, Bernard McCain, Wesley McCain; and sisters, Mildred Stinson, Ruth Markham, Audrey McCain and Wanda Jordan preceded her in death.

Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021, at the Avery Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Roddy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Harvey Carter, Tilman Deaton, Sammy Lambert, Mark Meagson, Glenn Woods and Michael Downs.

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at the church.

Survivors include her son, Doug Gortney of Avery; daughter, Nancy Durham of New Boston; grandchildren, Tracy Howard and husband, Tom of Elysian Fields, Darrell Collvins and wife, Jessica of Malta and Casey Durham of New Boston; great grandchildren, Tiffani Tutt and Travis Howard; and great great grandchildren, Jed, Anna, Jenny, Kylie and Charlotte.
