Martha Stroud Obituary

Martha Sue Stroud was born on November 5, 1932, in Clarksville Texas. The daughter of Jim and Lee Ivy Claiborne. She went to be with her Lord on November 30, 2023, at the age of 91.

A family graveside service will be held at Lanes Chapel at 11:00 AM on December 4, 2023, under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Mark Gossett. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1501 Hwy 82 W. Clarksville, TX 75426, at 12:00 PM.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stroud, her parents, and brother Pat O’Donnell and his wife and son, two half sisters, Mary O’Donnell, and Pauline O’Donnell.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven Stroud and Paul and his wife Cathy Stroud, and her beloved grandson Hunter Stroud. She is also survived by the families of Charles and Doris Means Haynes, Jim and Frellie Means, and Jerry and Barbara Means.

Her entire life was spent in Clarksville until she moved to Greenville in 2000 to be with her family. On June 3, 1951, she married the love of her life Robert Stroud. Martha Sue will be remembered for writing “Gateway to Texas: History of Red River County” “For the Love of Country: It’s Price of Freedom” “Dear To My Heart.” She also wrote six cookbooks and was inducted into the Red River Hall of Fame in 2002. For 20 years she managed the family business called the “Ole Carousel” a Hallmark Gift Shop until 1989. At age 10 she was baptized at First Baptist Church in Clarksville by Rev. Claud Martin. She served her Lord in many ways over the years and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Clarksville, Texas and to the Red River County Public Library.
