Marion was born on February 14, 1942, in Red River County to Eula and Buster Lowe. He grew up in Clarksville alongside his siblings, Barbara Rhyne, Ann Garrison, and Ronnie Lowe. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1960 and later earned his degree from East Texas State College (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) in 1965. On August 29, 1965, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Landry, and together they built a beautiful life filled with family, faith, and service.
Marion proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. He often spoke with deep pride about his time in service and remained a patriot throughout his life.
A man of dedication and leadership, Marion achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager and later served as a Scoutmaster, mentoring many young men to achieve the same honor. In recognition of his lifelong commitment to scouting, the Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma Boy Scout Council dedicated the 2010 Eagle Scout class in his name.
Marion had a deep love for his home in Red River County and tirelessly worked to preserve its history. He was actively involved in several organizations focused on local progress and historical preservation. In 2015, he was honored with the Santa Fe Trail Association’s Award of Merit for his significant contributions to the restoration of the William Becknell gravesite and Robbinsville Cemetery project. That same year, he received additional recognition from the Red River County Tourism Committee and Red River County Historical Society. He and his friends continued their efforts to maintain and beautify these important historical sites.
After his military service, Marion returned to Clarksville and worked as a purchasing agent for Red River County Hospital. He later served as the personnel director for Barker and Taylor Company and Stoneville Manufacturing before retiring after 20 years with the Texas Workforce Commission.
Marion had a love for the outdoors and cherished his time at his hunting cabin, fondly known as “The Place.” He often traveled to New Mexico and Colorado for hunting trips, forming lifelong friendships along the way. Some of his favorite memories were made on these trips with his son, Rusty, and his many hunting buddies, whose friendships spanned generations.
Above all, Marion loved his family. He cherished summer vacations with his children, Robin and Rusty, and later, with his beloved "grand girls," creating memories that will be treasured forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Suzanne; daughter, Robin Lowe Flournoy, and her husband, James; son, Rusty Lowe, and his wife, Renee; granddaughters, Lauren Brooke Flournoy Walker and her husband, Tyler; Whitney Marie Flournoy Ruckman and her husband, Gary; and Jenna Grace Flournoy. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Wyatt James Walker.
Marion’s legacy of service, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
