Katherine Black McClanahan, age 75, of Avery, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Kathy was born on June 11, 1949, in Red River County to Douglas Warren and Dorothy Pearl Jones Black. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Known for her exceptional cooking, Kathy found great joy in preparing meals for her family. She was of the Baptist faith and cherished the simple pleasures of life—her beloved cats and dogs, bird watching, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McClanahan, and her daughter, Kathy Lynn McClanahan.
She is survived by her son, Michael McClanahan and wife Krista of Avery; her daughter, Jessica Smith and husband Jason of Avery; her brother, Marvin Black of Avery; and seven cherished grandchildren: Haden, Collin, Taylor, Lainey, Weston, Ellinor, and Thatcher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Ritchey officiating. Burial will follow in Savannah Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Michael McClanahan, Jason Smith, Steven Coleman, Michael Pressnell and Kelly Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers are Haden McClanahan, Collin Smith and Weston Stewart.
