Joy Alsup Gist

Joy Jan Alsup Gist passed away February 4, 2023. Joy was born in Clarksville, on May 9, 1939, to Garrett Manard and Mell Rose Alsup.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Ross Glenn Alsup; and her husband, Sam Hice Gist.

Joy is survived by son, Sammy Gist, grandsons, Slade and Sean, and their mother, Sheri Lee Gist; son, Stacy Gist, and wife, Stacey Beth Gist; grandsons, Seth, Scott, and Stone; sister, Melba Alsup Denny and husband, Ray.

After graduating from Clarksville High School, Joy went to the University of North Texas in Denton for one year. She later earned her BBA and Master's in Elementary Education with a kindergarten Certificate from East Texas State (now Texas A&M at Commerce). She worked and later retired from the Clarksville Independent School system, having taught kindergarten and middle school Texas History.

Funeral services are set for 10:00. AM Thursday, February 9, 2023, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Don Shovan officiating.  Burial will follow in New Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Tony Cameron, Billy Wright, Ben Alsup, Andy Aslup, Dane Johnson and Don Frazee.
