John Arthur Decker, age 94, of Avery, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at Focused Care of Clarksville. Mr. Decker was born July 1, 1926 in Doniphan, Missouri to Jesse and Belle Larue Decker. John served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Avery Missionary Baptist Church. His wife, Virginia Decker and 8 siblings preceded him in death. Mr. Decker was a retired supervisor for the Tarrant County Water Board. He was an accomplished welder, a Mason, and a loving grandfather. He was a rancher and enjoyed spending time on the Decker Ranch in Avery.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Decker and wife, Brenda of Avery and Alan Decker of Avery; one daughter, Pamela Broadway and husband, Chuck of Frisco; one sister, Ruth Brooks of California, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Avery Cemetery with Rev. Roddy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Mr. Decker will lie in state at the Avery Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday morning from 11:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. Covid-19 regulations apply.
Pallbearers are Brad Decker, Chad Decker, Tim Decker, Jake Decker, Brian Coffey and Kory Lane.
