Joel Glenn Hervey

Joel Glenn “Joe” Hervey, of Bogata, a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away at the age of 66, on June 14, 2022, in Bogata. Joel was born on March 14, 1956, in Clarksville to Sammy Sidney Hervey and Shirley Ann Eudy Hervey. They preceded him in death.

Joel had a knack for making those around him laugh. He always had some joke ready to tell and you couldn’t help but laugh. Joel never met a stranger. He would make a friend anywhere he went and could light up a room. Joel was an avid fisherman and loved anything to do with fishing any time he could. He loved the outdoors and watching birds. He had different bird houses he put up at different times so the birds had a place to go. Joel loved his family deeply, especially his two grandsons, Hunter and Hayden that were the light of his world. Joel also had a green thumb and he could make anything grow. He  had a love for plants, especially rose bushes. He always had the best, biggest and most fresh garden every year. He loved working in his garden or with his plants. Joel was also a devoted father and brother, he loved God and was a member of the Bogata Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Rivercrest High School and graduated from East Texas State University in 1978. After graduation Joel moved to Midlothian where he taught and  coached football.

Joel is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Kris Helms; 2 grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Helms, all of Waxahache; brother and sister-in-law, Sammy "Butch" and Kathy Hervey of Clarksville; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Ricky Franks of Talco; 2 special aunts, Betty Blackburn of Bogata and Imojean Lewis of Talco and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Duvall and John Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Cuthand Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.
