James "Jim" Trammell

James E. “Jim” Trammell, age 70, of Bagwell, passed away, Monday, December 11, 2023.  Jim was born, July 2, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio to Wilburn and Bonnie Coleman Trammell.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Blake Trammell.  Jim was a 1972 graduate of Pine Tree High School in Longview.  He enrolled in the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy and became a Texas State Trooper in 1974. When Jim graduated from the Academy, he had to be issued ammunition because he was too young to buy.  He was stationed in Dallas County and later, Red River County. Jim was a well respected officer and an expert marksman, serving on the Texas State Trooper SWAT Team.  He was a dedicated and loving father to his son. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with friends. He married Colleen Castaneda on May 26, 1984 and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Graveside services are set for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Manchester Cemetery with Steve Marx officiating.  Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are John Horton, Kevin Gray, Tim Shimpock, Eddy Castaneda, Thomas Castaneda and Darrell Dunham.

Honorary pallbearers are Corky Whitley, Jerry Conway and Sgt. Neal Roney.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen Trammell of Bagwell; sister, Jo Lynn McKnight of Longview; brothers in law, Butch Castaneda and wife, Jenny  of Eufala, Oklahoma, Eddy Castaneda and wife, Kathy of Avery, Thomas Castaneda of Bagwell and Steve Castaneda of Bagwell, 1 nephew, 1 niece and other extended family and friends. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Blake Trammell Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2348 FM 195, Bagwell, Texas 75412.
