James Runnells Puckett

James Runnells “Jake” Puckett passed away surrounded by family and friends on July 18, 2024, in Longview, Texas. Jake was born August 18, 1953, in Annona Texas. He graduated from Clarksville high school in 1971 and worked various jobs, including used car sales, bartending and construction before settling in Jenkins, Texas, and starting his career as a Pipe inspector at Lone Star Steel. To say Jake enjoyed hunting and fishing is understatement. He loved the great outdoors, being surrounded by nature, hunting squirrels, deer, dove and arrowheads. He was always trotline and pole fishing for catfish and crappie along the Sulphur River and no one ever caught a bigger fish than him. He was a master of tall tales and storytelling, an avid reader and a baseball enthusiast. Jake is proceeded in death by his mother, Bernice Elizabeth Merideth Puckett and father, George Carroll Puckett Sr., his brothers, George Carroll Puckett Jr and Robert Blaine “Bobby” Puckett, his brother-in-law, Reginald Martin and sweet great nephew Ryan Paul Puckett. Jake is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Loni Rae Puckett-Jaye and Kristopher Jaye and Elizabeth Alene “Ali” Puckett and Bret Crow; his precious granddaughters, Ema Rae Martin and Evelyn Lee ValleyRose Jaye; brother, Howard Neil Puckett, sister, Annie Elizabeth Puckett Martin; sister-in-laws, Anita Kay Meadows Puckett, Sandra Harvey Puckett and Sue Rust Puckett; special cousin, Andra Puckett Clay, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and out laws. 

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24,2024, at the Pavilion at Garland Cemetery in Annona with Rev. Ryan Youngblood officiating.  Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery.

Pallbearers are Samuel Puckett, Paul Puckett, Blaine Puckett, Noah Gordon, Kristopher Jaye and Tommy Pryor. 

Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Vaughan, Michael Mclendon and Bill Baxtor.
