James "Jimmy" Puckett

September 12, 1959 ~ April 17, 2023 (age 63) 63 Years Old

James Puckett Obituary

Jimmy Puckett, age 63, of Bogata, passed away, Monday, April 17, 2023, at his home after a five year courageous battle against cancer. He took his last breath with his beloved daughters by his side. He married Nancy Martin on January 31, 1991 in Bogata. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife; and his father, Gaston Puckett.

Jimmy was born, September 12, 1959, in Clarksville to Gaston and Roberta Kidd Puckett. He was known by many as Dad, Gramps, Puckett, JimBo, Big Red and Plowboy. Jimmy loved spending time with his family, gardening, watching westerns, grocery shopping at Super 1. Most of all he enjoyed having a few cold ones with his deer camp buddies and community friends. Gramps never went anywhere without his Grizzly Snuff in his shirt pocket.

At age 9, Jimmy started shining shoes at Paul Wilson’s barber shop. At age 13, he went to work for Bob Emery’s meat processing as a butcher. At age 19, he began working at Rivercrest Power Plant and later began his work career at the coal mines as a mechanic until retirement in 2018. He was a life time member of the Bogata Rodeo Association and was on the Board of Directors.

Survivors include his daughters, Amy Watson and husband, Brad of Taylor Town and Nicole Johnson and husband, Ashley of Bogata; mother, Roberta Puckett of Bogata; sisters, Debbie Dunham of Commerce and Rhonda Burns of Deport; brother, Johnny Puckett and wife, Leigh of Paris; grandchildren, Tanner Day and wife, Hunter, Kenley Day and Fiance, Taylor and Ashlin Johnson and Emma Johnson; step grandchildren, Brett, Bradlee, Gavin, Kenleigh, Camdyn, Callaway, Baylon and Brix; great grandchildren, Harlee Day, Waylon Day and Kadence Day; and his dog, Rowdy Boy.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Bogata with Rev. Jeff Duvall and Bro. Glen Michael officiating. Burial will follow in Cuthand Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Ashley Johnson, Brad Watson, Tanner Day, Brian Harville, Curtis Young, Johnny Puckett, Michael Postell and Ricky Norwood.

Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Peacock, Larry Harville, Dan Tabb, Bubba Gage, Jesse Hanna, Colton Jenkins, Taylor Sipes, Paul Dunham, Blaze Burns and George Shirley.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Cuthand Cemetery Association 5797 FM 910, Clarksville, Texas 75426 or the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank Lewis Home Health, Dr. Syed and the Texas Oncology Staff in Mt. Pleasant, Cypress Basin Hospice and his special caregiver, Misty McFatridge.
