James "Jamie" Richard Miller, age 81, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 5, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1943, in Detroit, Texas, to Harlin Wesley "Jack" Miller and Elsie B. Vickers Miller.
A proud graduate of Detroit High School, Class of 1961, James was a natural leader, serving as senior class president, student council president, and Beta Club president. He was voted Most Popular and Most Intellectual, named FHA Beau, and co-captained the basketball team.
James was a lifelong member of Martin Memorial United Methodist Church. He dedicated 44 years of service to Rodgers-Wade Manufacturing and played a vital role in the Detroit community. He served two terms as mayor of Detroit, was a member of the Detroit City Council, and served on the Detroit Cemetery Association Board. His passion for classic cars led him to be a member of the Little Motor City Drive Group, and he was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter for many years. Known for his craftsmanship and ability to work with his hands, James was truly a master of all trades.
Above all, James cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Morsman Miller; his sons, Rich Miller of Detroit, Warren Todd Miller and wife Donna of Paris, Kado Cato and wife Kari of New Braunfels, and Bobby Jack Miller and wife Kristen of Detroit; his daughter, Kara Jenkins and husband Jason of Detroit; as well as 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him. His wisdom, kindness, and sense of humor left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
Family will receive friends an hour before service.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Martin Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Shovan, Pastor Sam Savage, and Bro. Charles Woods officiating. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
