James Calhoun Smith, age 99, of Bogata, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at his residence.
James was born July 1, 1921, in Bogata to Oscar and Nora Patton Smith. James served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. During which he served overseas during WWII. James was a rancher his whole life. He knew his way around horses and cows. James and his brother, Jerald, were in the rodeo business for several years together. He was a strong man, and checked his cows up till his last week. Family always came first to James, he was always there to help them out when needed. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Margaret Smith; his daughter, Sherry Smith; 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
The family will receive friends one hour before service time at Cuthand United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services are set for 3:00p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Cuthand United Methodist Church with Jeff Jackson and Wesley Bogue officiating. Burial will follow in Bogata Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are S. J. Smith, Kenneth Williams, Rickey Moore, Bennie Crawford, Ike Roach and Lindy Guest. Honorary Pallbearers are Johnny Hudson and Jackie Gray.
Survivors include his son, Donnie Smith and wife Shirley of Bogata; his granddaughter, Dorie Roach and husband, Ike of Bogata; 2 great grandchildren, Rylee and Ruby Roach and 2 sisters, Shirley Earley of Bogata and Peggy Belcher of Bogata.
