James Byers Obituary

James Lee Byers Jr. of Avery, fell asleep in the Lord on March 26, 2025, at the age of 77 years. He was in an accident while living the life he so loved on his little farm.
James was born in Fort Worth, on August 29, 1947, to James Lee Byers and Goldie Wynn Byers. He met his sweetheart Norma Ann Woodby at Cowtown Bowling Alley. Amidst the chaos of thumping bowling balls, crashing bowling pins, and the jammin JukeBox, their romance flourished and they married April 7,1967. They moved to Springtown in 1968, where they started their family. James worked in construction the majority of his life as a welder. He opened a welding shop in Springtown on Hwy.199 during the late nineties. His nephew, Tracy Ford, started working with him shortly after opening. He and Tracy worked in tandem for many years. He did most of his business with locals and spent many hours on the local oilfield sites. He pretty much knew everyone in Springtown, the old and the young.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Rudewick officiaing.  Burial will follow in Lydia Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.

He volunteered a lot, if not all, of his non-working time throughout Kevin and Kim’s high school years to the kids. He worked on cars with Kevin and his friends and volunteered as Springtown rodeo team sponsor while Kim was rodeoing, and even years afterward. James never met a stranger and was always the first to volunteer when a helping hand was needed.
During the years of his mother's time as a widow, he worked hours upon hours by day, and never failed to go work at his mom's place in the evening. He cared for her 70 acres, the house, and farm animals. His strength and fortitude are unmatched.

When James and Norma retired, he had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in beautiful East Texas. They chose a place in Avery, the place that made him feel truly alive. Although his body, broken by many physical afflictions in life, he loved to go fishing and hunting with his best friend Mike Coke. He worked constantly on building nice fences and gates, working in the yard and around the small farm caring for his beloved little herd of cattle. His life was complete as long as he had his loving, loyal, chocolate lab Jake at his side.
James and Norma spent a lot of their time running back and forth to Springtown to visit their kids, Kevin Byers, Kim Holmes and her husband Clint, grandkids Garrett Byers, Haley Byers, Curtis Trest, and Hunter Holmes, and great grandkids Dawson, Ellie, Raider, Ryder, Charlize, and Carter. There was always a birthday, holiday, baseball game, some business to attend to, or just a trip in to say hello, and go out to eat. Sometimes he and Clint just rode around visiting, running errands and looking for something to get into while Norma and Kim went shopping.

James is preceded in repose by his mom and dad, cousin, Gary Byers, grandson Caleb Brown, and many family and friends. No doubt, the joy at being reunited with his dad that he hasn’t seen since he was 23 was a beautiful moment James’ best quality was his sheer determination. If there was a will, there was certainly a way! He never gave up or even knew the meaning of the word. Every time he met an obstacle in life, he doubled down and fought harder. According to him, to make something work, “it just needed some modification”.
Why, you ask? Because, as his dad taught him, “can’t never could, do nothing!”
May his memory be eternal.
God Bless.
