Irene Bryant Obituary

Irene Marie Bryant, age 78, of Blossom, Texas, passed away on August 4, 2025, at Heritage House Nursing Home.

Irene was born on November 8, 1946, in Vancouver, Washington, to David Junior Akehurst and Margaret Irene Miller Akehurst. She graduated from Clark Junior College in 1967 with an Associate Degree in Nursing and went on to become a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career, Irene worked in management for several local nursing homes and served her community through her work at Red River General Hospital in Clarksville, Texas. She later retired in 2011 as Assistant Administrator from East Texas Medical Center in Clarksville.

Irene was deeply devoted to her community and volunteered with several organizations, including the Red River Valley Girl Scout Council, the American Cancer Society, the Bereaved Parent Support Group, Detroit Head Start, and the Boy Scouts of America. Her compassion, leadership, and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Scott Bryant; and her brother, Howard Akehurst.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marleena Proffer and husband Brian of Quinlan; her grandchildren, Landree Proffer and Gage Proffer; her special brother, Travis Bryant of Paris; and her extended family in Washington State and the Akehurst family.

Irene will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and lifelong dedication to caring for others.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Tamera Marr Ingram officiating.  Burial will follow in Detroit Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The Texoma Nurse Honor Guard will perform rites.

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Brian Proffer, Gage Proffer, Jason Proffer, Robert Akehurst, Jimmy Isbell and Travis Bryant.
