Hiram Burris King, known as “Buddy” passed away peacefully on Sunday May 24, 2020 in his home located in Garland, Texas. Buddy was named after his uncle Judge Hiram Burris King, from Woodward, Okla.
Hiram Burris King was born March 11, 1936 in Red River County. On the day of his birth due to stormy weather he was delivered by his loving grandmother Mama Nell King who gave his nickname “Buddy”. The blue grass banjo playing husband, father, grandfather, and friend was known his entire life as “Buddy” and Pawpaw. He graduated High School in 1954 from Annona High School.
Buddy was preceded in death by his father Dan King. mother Vera Ellen King and sister Anne Phillips of Annona, Texas. He is survived by wife Lillian Annette King, three sons and two daughter in-laws ; Bobby Dan King, David and Cindy King, and Jimmy Don and Lanita King. Left to cherish Buddy’s memories are his 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Buddy married wife Annette King on September 18, 1954 in Conroe, Texas. They lived in Garland,Texas where they raised their three sons. He worked as a Land surveyor for Gaddy & Lovin engineers for over 30 years. He and his crew developed many of the Large Shopping Centers in the Dallas area including the “North Park Mall”.
His favorite hobby was his music. In his younger years he and his sister Anne played on a radio show in Mount Pleasant, Texas. They performed on the “Louisiana Hayride” with stars that included Hank Williams Sr., The Bails’ Brothers, Johnny & Jack, Kitty Wells and Slim Whitman. Later in life he continued playing Blue Grass music. He then mastered the five-string banjo and joined the Shady Grove Ramblers of Irving, Texas for 10 years. They won several Blue Grass Music awards.
He also loved to treasure hunt for coins, antique jewelry and old glass bottles. Buddy loved treasure hunting and music but always made time to help his loving sons work on their broken automobiles and he will be missed.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Gilliam Cemetery with Randy Ross officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home.
