Gaines McCulloch was born in Clarksville on November 10, 1926 and died on March 24, 2022. He was the son of Nathaniel and Kate Green McCulloch. Mr. McCulloch grew up in Clarksville and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He attended the University of Texas in Arlington and worked for the Continental Oil Company and also the U.S. Postal Service in Clarksville. Mr. McCulloch later retired to his beloved home and property in the Hopewell Community of Red River County, where he and his wife, Evelyn lived out their lives. He loved caring for his flower and vegetable gardens the bounty of which he and Evelyn truly enjoyed sharing with his wonderful friends and neighbors. All who knew Gaines were blessed with his lifetime loyalty. He was a natural storyteller and could bring joy and laughter to anyone’s day easily. Gaines will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 67 years, Dr. Evelyn Hall McCulloch; 1 son, Dr. Edward G. McCulloch; and 2 sister’s, Ann and Natalie.
Gaines leaves behind 1 daughter, Joanna McCulloch Dewey and husband, John; 1 granddaughter, Leah McCulloch Griffin and husband, Josh; and their 2 daughters, Aiden and Easten all of Meadow Lakes; and 1 grandson, Paul McCulloch of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Private Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
