Dolan “Axe Handle” Mankins, age 86, of the Lone Star Community, passed away, Monday, October 5, 2020, at Titus Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mankins was born September 1, 1934 in the Mauldin Community of Red River County to L.O. “Coot” and Lemoria Minshew Mankins. Dolan retired from Phillips Products in Paris. After retirement he did what he enjoyed the most, which was riding his horse and working cattle on area ranches. He was an avid Team Roper and enjoyed riding in the Bogata Rodeo with his family. Dolan supported and loved watching his grandchildren play all kinds of sports. He was a member of the Lone Star United Methodist Church. Dolan married Rachel Burns in 1960, in Talco. Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Pansey Williams; and brothers, Morris, Ronald and Donald.
Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Dink Benton and Rev. Don Shovan officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Covid-19 restrictions apply.
Pallbearers are Ron Tippit, Thurman Russell, Johnny Hudson, Joe De Priest, Rickey Moore, Mickey Moore Craig Fletcher and Shorty Bishop
Honorary Pallbearers are Tye Mankins, Jeremy Mankins, E.C. Nichols, Bryce Jenkins and Ethan King.
Mr. Mankins will lie in state on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Mankins; 2 sons, Nathan Mankins of Bogata and Neil Mankins and wife, Lessa of Detroit; 1 daughter, Debbie King and Mike Rust of Avery; grandchildren, Tye Mankins, Camelia Jenkins and husband, Bryce, Katie Nichols and husband, E.C., Jeremy Mankins and wife, Crystal and Ethan King; great grandchildren, Korie, Lakin, Kentley, Bonner, Ella and Kade and several nieces and nephews.
