Cotton Townes

Billy Eugene “Cotton” Townes, age 83 died on July 27, 2024, peacefully at his home in Paris, Texas surrounded by his loving family.  Cotton was born on October 23, 1940, in Clarksville, Texas.  He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1960.  He married the love of his life, Nancy on August 8, 1979. 

Cotton is survived by his wife, Nancy Townes, 3 daughters, Terri Townes and friend Carlos Ramirez of Longview, TX , Jill Conway and husband Jeff Conway of Blossom, TX, Karissa Lange and Victor Lange of Nassau, Bahamas, 4 grandchildren, Rae Conway Pridemore, Cade Conway, Madeleine Lange, Simone Lange, 1 great grandchild Ever Townes Pridemore, 2 nieces Leigh Annis Kennedy and husband Randy Kennedy, Tracy Townes, 1 nephew Rob Boreaux, and 1 brother-in-law Bradley Boreaux.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Thomas and Beulah Evelyn Townes, brother and sister-in-law, Don and Kathy Townes, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jenny Boreaux.  

Cotton was a true cowboy and a life-long entrepreneur which included Townes Ready Mix and Asphalt, Townes Dozier Works, The Cotton-Burr Western Wear and Walmart in Clarksville, Texas.  He was the longest standing member of Aikin Grove Baptist Church in Clarksville.  Cotton was selfless, loving, and always laughing.  His greatest joy in life was his family. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that there be donations made to Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 229 CR 4115, Clarksville, Texas 75426.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Youngblood officiating.  Burial will follow in Aikin Grove Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Chris Harvey, Jeff Conway, Cade Conway, Victor Lange, Carlos Ramirez and Payton Pridemore.

Honorary Pallbearers are Hal Pilgram, Wayne Sheppard, Rev. James Brown, Scotty Humphrey, Mike McGuire and Syd Ingram and the Men of Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  

The family will receive friends an hour before service time at the church.
