He attended Clarksville High School and Madras Community School, later returning to Clarksville Public Schools after a tragic fire destroyed the original school.
He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1956 and entered Texas A&M College (now Texas A&M University) that same fall. In May 1960, he earned a degree in education, psychology, and counseling. During his time there, he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets for four years.
In June 1961, he entered the United States Air Force. He completed Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and received his first assignment at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., where he served as a personnel Technician. He later returned to Lackland AFB in a medical personnel role. In September 1962, he entered Officer Training School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 1962.
Over his 20-year military career, he served at multiple assignments, including Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Soesterberg Air Base in Holland (Camp New Amsterdam), and the Pentagon, where he served as a General’s Aide.
While stationed at Randolph AFB as a Security Police Officer, he worked alongside the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies to help protect President John F. Kennedy during a visit to San Antonio, the day before the President’s assassination. He later supported security operations for President Lyndon B. Johnson during visits to his ranch in Johnson City, Texas.
He was later assigned to Nakhon Phanom Air Base in Thailand, where he served as the Air Force Representative in a specialized multi-service unit, the Joint Casualty Resolution Center. In this role, he flew missions into Vietnam searching for prisoners of war (POWs), those missing in action (MIAs), and personnel whose remains had not been recovered. His final assignment was at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma.
His military decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with devices, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
He retired from the Air Force in June 1981 and moved with his family to Powderly, Texas. There, he began a second career as a Social Worker with the Texas Department of Human Services, retiring in December 1996.
In 1997, he and his wife, a retired nurse, sold their home and land, distributed their worldwide collectibles among their children, and purchased a motorhome. Over the next seven years, they traveled across 40 states and three Canadian provinces, contributing more than 8,000 volunteer hours to National Parks, State Parks, and church camps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Elmer & Beatrice Williamson Goode and his brothers, James Ross Goode and Bill Goode.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Alice Tucker Good, of Kingwood; his children, Carole Anne Ingram and husband Frank, of Kingwood and Charles Glen Goode and wife Jenifer of Ellenton, Florida; his grandchildren, Jonathan Ross Fowler of Playcar, Mexico, William Blake Fowler and wife Teresa of Bieber, Germany, Austin Garrett Goode and wife Dr. Anna Jurlina of Seattle, Washington, Tanner Lee Goode and wife Hailey Christensen of Bradenton, Florida and Kyle Tucker Goode of Ellenton, Florida and his brothers, Bob Good and wife Carolyn of Franklin, Tennessee and Jerry Goode of Las Vegas, Navada.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Clarksville Funeral Home.
Funeral services are set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Madras Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
