Billy M. Hill, age 92, was born in Red River County, on November 17, 1930, to Sid and Essie Brown Hill. He passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at Clarksville Nursing Center on his beloved mother’s 127th birthday. Billy had three brothers and three sisters all preceding him in death.
Billy was truly one of those people who should have lived 200 years ago. He had a pioneering spirit and a love and great knowledge of the outdoors. Billy’s formal education was limited and that bothered him, but he was an intelligent man who could solve problems and fix things. He was from a farming family, but when he was 18, he and his parents took the job of caretakers of Clarksville Country Club. They worked there for 14 years. After Essie passed away, Billy married Mary Ann Shirley in 1962 and began working for Magnolia Brush Factory. He worked there for 45 years. When he retired, he turned in a set of tools he had been issued on his first day at work. Mary Ann became disabled with multiple sclerosis and Billy cared for her for 20 years. When he could not care for himself, he went into Clarksville Nursing Center where he spent the rest of his life. Billy is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a good honest man who will be missed.
Funeral Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in Stones Chapel Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to Mary Ann. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.
