Barbara Scott Obituary

Barbara Jennie Scott of Mt Vernon, passed away 85 years young on January 24, 2025.

Barbara led a life of service. Early she worked as a nurse then transitioned to a military spouse. She was supportive of her family by being actively involved in PTA, Band Boosters, and Girls & Boy Scouts of America. She also served her community through such organizations as the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Barbara was adventurous throughout her life. Traveling abroad overseas she immersed herself in local cultures through her love of history and cooking. She reveled in taking family “road trips” to visit family and friends. One of her proud achievements included visiting every state in the union through RV adventures with the love of her life Wayne.

Working with little or no resources early in life allowed her creative side to blossom throughout her life. Her passion projects included painting, decoupage, scrapbooking and singing. She always had a song in her heart as singing came naturally and an affinity for music. She enjoyed other activities with a competitive spirit such as bowling, family games: cards, dominoes, board, and the infamous one-armed bandit.

Anyone who met Barbara would not say she had never met a stranger, due to her outgoing personality and big heart. A fierce defender for those who needed a helping hand through generous deeds. She encouraged and supported those she deeply cared for with resilience and grace. She provided stability when every other foundation crumbled.

Barbara was predeceased by her first husband Lewis Brantley, her beloved husband of over 50 years Wayne A Scott, and her eldest son Lewis “Ben” Brantley. Barbara leaves behind her sisters Joyce Lummus and Cherris Starek. She also leaves behind her daughter Rebecca Peck and her son Gerald Scott. Additionally, she leaves behind her five grandchildren: Breanna Sumy, Amber Scott, Britney Danials, Barbara “Aleie” Shahi, and Lewis Brantley; six great-grandchildren: Helen Lawson, Laura Lawson, James Sumy, Natalie Pitcher, Gabriel Pitcher, and Reason “RJ” Shahi; and one great-great grandson Noah Avicci.

The family will receive friends one hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.

Funeral services are set for 12:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2025, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
