Richard Lee Hankins, 73, of Avery passed away February 18, 2024, in Longview, Texas. He was born December 20, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Earl Quinton and Bobbie Jean Featherston Hankins. He attended high school in Coppell, Texas. He later served in the US Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany and met his future wife, Gertrud. Later in life, he retired from Campbell Soup Company after 30 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed his grandkids, surfing the internet, and mapping English Cemetery. He served as president of the English Cemetery Society for seven years. Richard was a quiet man, but those he cherished knew it.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bobbie Hankins.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Gertrud Hankins; his brothers and sister-in-law, Bobby Earl Hankins and Steven Hankins and wife Sue of Trinidad, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jerry Don Mathis of Avery; granddaughters Angela Hankins of Paris and Kelli Mathis of Avery, grandson Griffin Hankins of Texarkana; his fur babies Sissy and Cotton; and many friends
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at English Cemetery with Rev. Dean Grisgsby officiating. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
