Charles Robert Stanley
Charles Robert Stanley, age 61, died following a farming accident at his home in Avery, on Sunday, July 20, 2008. Charles was born in Red River County to Raymond and Rosine Bearden Stanley on July 18, 1947. He graduated from Avery High School in 1965. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. After completing his tour of duty with the Navy, he returned to Red River County and followed his father’s footsteps going to work at Red River Army Depot Fire Department. He received an associate’s degree in Fire Technology and became an EMT. He worked at Red River Army Depot Fire Department until his mandatory retirement in 2004. Then never one to “sit at home”, he went to work as a contract security officer at RRAD. When that job was finished, he again went to work as a Fireman/EMT at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post # 45 as well as serving as Assistant Chief and First Responders for Avery Community Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his favorite Uncle Chubby McCullough, and his in-laws Ruth and James Parker of Texarkana. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Phyllis of Avery, and his two sons Chris of Denton and Cody of Nacogdoches, his two sisters and their husbands Edna and David Phelps of New Boston and Paula and Andy Speir of Bogata, his Aunt Willine McCullough of Avery, and one niece and three nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Bro. David Ingram, Rev. Roddy Jackson and Bro. Tommy Golmon officiating. Burial will be in the Gilliam Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Avery Volunteer Fire Department and the Red River Army Depot Fire Department. Pallbearers are Robert McPeak, Tonie Fite, Gary “Yankee” Leiras, Troy Austin, Jimmy Brookshire, and Mike Storey. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at Clarksville Funeral Home.
