Donald E. Whitten, age 79, of Avery, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in Wadley Hospital, Texarkana.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Tuggle Springs Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites by Avery Masonic Lodge # 921. Services are under the direction Clarksville Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
He was born in the Acworth Community on May 23, 1929 to Ronald Ezell and Lenora Annelsie Lewis Whitten. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #1111 in El Paso, a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charlie and Leslie Whitten; 2 sisters, Winnie Hardin and Gladys Steele.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Serna Whitten. They were married on February 11, 1972; sons, Donnie Whitten of Dallas, Dean Whitten of Kansas, Danny Whitten of Arlington, Dennis Whitten of Waco, and Steve McCaul of Hagerman NM; daughter, Charlene McKinney of Las Cruces, NM; sisters, Bonnie Gross of Clarksville, Mary Mooneyham of Paris and Geraldine Brackeen of Avery; several grand and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are, James Steele, Glen and Doug Whitten, Tony Russell, Alan Steele and Ernest Henslee.
