James Ellis Goodman
James Ellis Goodman, age 85 of Clarksville, died Friday, May 09, 2008 in East Texas Medical Center, Clarksville. Mr. Goodman founded Goodman Insurance in Clarksville in 1953. The business continues today and is owned and managed by his son and grandson. He was born in Clarksville on February 10, 1923 to Ollen Ellis and Josephine Collins Goodman. He served in the U.S. Marines, loved to travel and was a longtime member of McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Layman’s Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by parents; first wife, Dixie Peek Goodman; second wife, Mary Payne Goodman; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Jo and Ken Huddleston; brother-in-law, Ted Skinner. Survivors include his son Dick Goodman and wife Karen of Emory; grandchildren, Kirk Goodman of Tyler, Jeff Goodman and wife Dusty of Reno; sister, Mary Evelyn Skinner of San Diego, CA; step-children, Bob Burris and Lou Ann Viergever; nieces, Bonnie Wettengel and Kathy Anderson. Funeral services for Mr. Goodman will be Monday, May 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lew Stokes officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are: Dr. Jeff Arnold, Mark Mallory, Chuck Johns, George Reese, James Vaughan, Jr., John Ward. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Layman’s Sunday School Class. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
