Mr. Johnson was born November 13, 1924, in Red River County, a son of John Howard and Margie Lee Young Johnson, and was retired from Whites Auto Store in Paris and a home builder. As a young man he was unswerving in his support to his beloved mother. This in turn developed a man who was extremely loyal to family, work, and country. Throughout his life many called upon his business knowledge as well as advice which he gave freely. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an anti-tank gunman and was in the invasion of Luzon campaign in the Philippine Islands where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. During this campaign he received wounds that required extensive treatment before returning to civilian life. "The Greatest Generation: is a phrase that was coined to describe these men who served, paid a heavy sacrifice but continued on in life to build one of the greatest country's on earth. Later in his life he expressed concern these sacrifices would be forgotten by future generations. Embodying these words serves as a reminder to all, a tribute to his service and courage. It was a honor for all of us whose lives were touched by this man. His sacrifices as a father, soldier and grandfather will never be forgotten. His lessons live on in two very grateful sons. He was a member of the Lamar Point Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Johnson; a daughter, Patsy Ann Johnson; three brothers, Doug, Jesse, and Bobby Johnson; and a sister, Ellen Coots.
