Billy Murphy, 70, of Avery, Texas, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, in Christus
St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana following a lengthy illness. Billy was retired
from the Red River Army Depot and the owner of Murphy’s Liquor in Annona, Texas.
He was born on March 23, 1937, in the Boxelder community to Wesley and Velma
Howard Murphy. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Salem Baptist
Church. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Jim Pat Tohill.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Myrna Rust Murphy. They were married
on July 24, 1960, in Boxelder. Other survivors are: two daughters, Jeanie Malcom
and husband Mark of Ennis, Texas and LaDonna Hunt of Avery, Texas; grandson,
Kyle Hunt of Avery, Texas; a granddaughter, Lauren Hunt and fiance’ Stephen York
of New Boston, Texas; two step-grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Malcom of Ft.Worth,
Texas; three sisters, Mary McDuffie of Texarkana, Margie Lynch and husband Tip
of New Boston, and Diannah Lum and husband Earl of Marlow, Oklahoma; one brother;
Don Murphy and wife Marty of Avery, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00 pm in Lindeman Chapel
of Clarksville Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McCain officiating. Visitation
will be Tuesday night from 6 to7 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in
Avery Cemetery, under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
